We Never Stopped Learning at Trinity
Trinity's campus was temporarily closed in mid-March to help contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and safeguard the health of our school community. However, learning and community never stopped. Students at Trinity continued learning and developing through a robust program of online learning. Trinity is confident that our students met our essential learning objectives and are ready to move on to the next grade level when the new school year begins in August.

How is that possible?
While it may be tempting to view this extended closure as a setback, or lost instructional time, we are viewing it as an opportunity to continue our educational program and build upon the success our students have already experienced this year.
Our Students are READY to Meet the Challenge
Our students are among the best in the country and are ready to meet this challenge. In the providence of God, this shutdown comes after three very successful quarters of instruction, with the vast majority of our curricular goals having already been accomplished. We began this year being named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School with our students being recognized as top performers nationally. We have also received CTP scores from our October test administration and our students have shown significant academic growth over last year. In fact, this year’s CTP scores are even better than the scores that qualified us as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School. Trinity’s academic program is uniquely designed to equip students with the skills needed to be independent, lifelong learners.

Our Faculty has been PREPARING for this Moment for the Past Six Years
Our faculty has been preparing for this moment for the past six years. Six years ago, Dr. Vanderpoel set a goal of establishing a mechanism to provide online learning in the event of a global pandemic. With this in mind, we implemented Virtual Learning Days. Each school year, we have scheduled practice Virtual Learning Days, one in the Fall and one in the Spring, and have even used them during extended closures due to snow. So, in many ways, we have been successfully providing online instruction for six years and are ready to meet this challenge.
Our School is LEADING the Way
Our school has invested heavily in the training and resources needed to deliver high-quality online instruction. When the University of Washington became the first school system to close nationally due to the coronavirus, they transitioned to online learning through Panopto, a video platform our teachers have been using (and training on) since we started Virtual Learning Days six years ago. In providing an exemplar to our nation’s universities and schools, Panopto highlighted a video made by a Trinity faculty member five years ago. Trinity is leading the way! In addition to using Panopto, the majority of our teachers will be using Zoom to provide live instruction and tutoring, and we have invested in substantial upgrades to our IT support program and information technologies.

Our Plan
Students are expected to be engaged in schoolwork Monday through Friday. We have differentiated online learning according to the developmental differences that exist across the grades and in consideration of parental involvement. Your child’s Veracross class page will be the primary source of communication from the teacher, as well as the repository of lessons, resources, and assessments.
Grades K-4
Grades K-4
(Early Education)
High parental involvement will be required.
- Parents should check their child’s Veracross class page each weekday at 8:00 a.m. for instructions from the teacher.
- Students will only need access to a computer between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. each weekday.
- Teachers will be using the Panopto video platform to record instruction and demonstrate activities.
- Teachers will also be using a variety of educational programs and applications to supplement instruction, with links and resources posted on the Veracross class page.
- Parents may need to print out worksheets for their child.
- Any online assessments given will take place between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. each weekday.
- Teachers will be “on call” until 3:00 p.m. each day. They can be reached via email or through discussion threads found on your child’s class page.
- Work can be submitted through the digital drop box on your child’s Veracross class page.
Grades 5-6
Grades 5-6
(Upper Elementary)
Moderate parental involvement required.
- Parents should ensure that their child is checking their Veracross class pages each day, Monday through Friday, for assignments and instructions.
- Students will need access to a computer each day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Synchronous instruction will take place each Tuesday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
- Teachers will be using Zoom to present live periods of instruction and provide tutoring as needed. Panopto will be utilized as a supplemental program for creating, editing, and posting recorded videos.
- Teachers will host virtual office hours each afternoon between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. via Zoom or can be reached by email.
- Students will collaborate with fellow students through discussion threads, Office 365, and Zoom breakout rooms.
- Assignments and assessments will be completed online or submitted through the digital dropbox on Veracross.
Grades 7-12
Grades 7-12
(Secondary)
Low parental involvement required.
- Students should check their Veracross class pages and school email each day, Monday through Friday, for assignments and instructions.
- Students will need access to a computer each day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Synchronous instruction will take place each Tuesday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
- Teachers will be using Zoom to present live periods of instruction and provide tutoring as needed.
- Students will utilize their school provided Panopto account to view and create videos.
- Teachers will host virtual office hours each afternoon between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. via Zoom or can be reached by email.
- Students will collaborate with fellow students through discussion threads, Office 365, and Zoom breakout rooms.
- Assignments/assessments will be submitted through Turnitin.com, the digital dropbox, or another designated platform.
